How Mobile LiveScan Works — Step by Step
Never had LiveScan done before? Here is exactly what happens from the moment you book to the moment your results are submitted — no surprises, no confusion.
1
Download or obtain your LiveScan
request form
Your employer, licensing agency, volunteer organisation, or immigration attorney will provide you with a Request for Live Scan Service form — most commonly a BCIA 8016 or an agency-specific version. This form must be completed and before your appointment.
2
Book your mobile appointment
Call, text, or book online. Let Lisa know your purpose — employment, licensing, immigration, or volunteer — and your location in San Diego County. Same-day appointments are available when open. You will receive a confirmation once appointment is booked.
3
Lisa comes to you with DOJ-approved equipment
Lisa arrives at your location with a portable, DOJ-approved LiveScan device. She brings everything needed to complete your scan on the spot — No travel required on your part.
4
Identity verification and form review
You present your valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. Lisa reviews your request form to confirm the ORI code, applicant type, and all required fields are complete — because an error on the form can cause delays in your results.
5
Electronic fingerprint capture — takes about 5 minutes
Lisa scans all ten fingers using the digital reader. The process is completely painless and uses no ink. If any scan needs to be retaken due to skin condition or scan quality, it is done immediately at no extra charge. Clients with worn fingerprints, cuts, or skin conditions are accommodated — just let Lisa know when scanning.
6
Submission to DOJ and/or FBI — and your ATI number
Results are transmitted electronically to the California Department of Justice and/or FBI depending on your requirement. Lisa provides your Applicant Transaction Identifier (ATI) number immediately after submission. Use it to track your results at applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov— DOJ processing typically takes 3–5 business days, FBI can take up to 4–6 weeks.
